Upwind - Powers Combined

A few months back we were lucky enough to run a playtest of Jeff Barber's game Upwind, a high-fantasy game of skyships, lost science, and infinite sky. It uses a card-based resolution mechanic to resolve conflicts scene-by-scene rather than turn-by-turn.

As Knights of the Explorer's Guild, our heroes are tasked with journeying down into the Twilight Frontier to map the migration of an archipelago of highlands (flying islands). Strange creatures, pirates, and the landscape itself seek to keep the Knights from their task.

Red Markets - The Last Push

Hey all, Laura (Pixie) here,

If you’ve enjoyed our Red Markets campaign so far (it’s the majority of what we’ve released onto the airwaves…), I hope you’ll consider backing the Red Markets Kickstarter. As of writing this, there’s three days left and it’s only $284 away from unlocking yet another stretch goal: the Gaming the System Guide, Caleb’s part design analysis, part advice document on how to make the Profit system drive other settings.

I’m not going to lie, I do have a personal motivation to that appeal: I’m the editor on this project. And, as much as this makes my health-economics trained partner despair, a solid chunk of my reasoning behind signing onto the project was “ooooh, I’ll get to see the rules sooner.”

And let me tell you, those rules are solid. I’ve been working on editing the player’s section practically since the Kickstarter made, back on day one, and everything looks better than the beta version we played with. Caleb really incorporated all the feedback he got from the various and sundry playtesters into some clean, clear copy on how to play the game.

I should probably get back to that editing, so y’all get the preview draft as soon as possible. Happy gaming!

Red Markets Beta - The Reformers - Episode 14

NEWS: The Red Markets Kickstarter is live for one more week! Thanks to the work of the Red Markets community, the hardcover version has a guaranteed full-color, offset print run. If you've enjoyed our AP's, please consider becoming a backer to receive a plethora of bonus PDF's and Actual Plays, along with an amazing game.

Gregor Agriculturalist, located in the heart of Kansas City, contains bleeding-edge vertical farming technology ripe for the taking. It's also the final destination for The Reformers as they set out to complete their Mr. JOLS. Will additional crew and added firepower be enough to survive?

Laura – “Pixie” Mallory: Former pre-med student who volunteered as an EMT, Pixie was out west on an internship when the Crash went down. She’s been working her way back East and home alongside a slowly dwindling squad of Army Reservists ever since.

Ethan – “Freebird”: an Ozark gun dealer with a social justice streak. Used to run with a raider outfit, but got out when they turned white supremacist. He’s trying to make a better life for his black adopted son, Davion, who lost an arm to the raiders.

Aaron – Antonio “Elder” Delgado:  Smuggler turned Mormon missionary who got trapped in the States during the Crash.  Now he uses his truck and criminal past to earn enough for a one-way ticket back to Mexico.

Red Markets Beta - The Reformers - Episode 13

NEWS: The Red Markets Kickstarter is live! Help us reach the offset print run stretch goal so we can get a full-color print run of the book.

After hitting a huge payday, The Reformers are now able to escape the Loss. But instead of immediately retreating to the safety of the Recession, they decide to double down and do just one last job (Mr. JOLS if you're a Taker), a once-in-a-lifetime score with heavy risks. How will their friends and family take the news?
